26Is Dot-Com the only domain that matters?
When choosing a domain for your website, the first consideration is the name itself. Finding a domain name you want to use that's not already taken is a difficult task. One study has over 110 million domains registered as of 2009. More often than not, you will find that "yourdesireddomain.COM" is taken.

26Is Font-Face Ready for Primetime?
After listening to this month's presentation at TC Web Pros, I was inspired to start using @font-face on my websites, to start using custom fonts. Typekit.com is one source help you get started, and even better, the Minnesota-based Kernest.com.

13RSS Feeds On Your Website
Several clients are asking me to create and embed RSS feeds on their sites these days, so it seems like a good time to review what these are and how to use them.

08Ecommerce and Multiple Distributors
Online sales can be problematic for companies who rely on a network of distributors. On one hand, business owners want to reach new customers, and an online store is a perfect opportunity. But on the other hand, opening an online store could anger their distributors, appearing to competing with them (or not just appearing, but actually competing). So nothing gets done. But this isn't a happy ending. Is there another way?

07Websites Acting Like Apps
While I've downloaded a lot of great apps since I've started using an iPhone (which was just this year), I'm also a big user of the Safari Browser on the iPhone. As a web designer, it's interesting to use a mobile device that presents websites as mini-versions of the real thing. (well, almost the real thing, there a few differences).

14Fonts in Web Design
Choosing what font to use in web design is somewhat like going to the same restaurant every day, and there's 3-4 items to choose from. If you want to use fonts and text on your web pages (and for usability, SEO, and accessibliity, you really should), you're stuck with a few choices. And that really hasn't changed for the past 10 years. There are a few options, however, that may help.

22Twitter is Everywhere
After recently attending MinneWebCon and last night, attending the (1st ever) IgniteMpls conference, I can see the hype over Twitter isn't all talk. While it's easily debatable how useful most of the Twittering and celebrity stalking going on with Twitter, there's one positive use of Twitter that I'm really liking.

01Browser Wars
Looks like Firefox may be the comeback kid, taking up more and more marketshare of browser's use from Internet Explorer. Interesting to see, considering Firefox arose from the ashes of Netscape. It could read like a dramatic plot, the son avenging the father.

17Ecommerce Software
I've been using Zen Cart as the ecommerce software of choice for my clients the past few years, due to its bevy of features and overall stability and support. Just in 2008, I've used Zen Cart on sites for Dogs Go Green, Yarn Finders, JSB Security, Gruv Precision Hardware, Corporate Fitness Products, and Systium Technologies. I am keeping on eye on what else is out there, however, and will continue to try out other promising ecommerce packages as time goes on.
